Ah, so this is what it is.
I also have been on Pipex for about 5 years, but changed to the 8MB package about a month ago.
In the last week I've been unable to connect - very slow logons, then stuck at "acquiring bulk data".
If I ever got to the character screen, it had 3 empty squares.
Is there a solution yet?

Edited by: Freya B on 07/01/2008 21:57:59 Shouldn't we wait until you find out if it can connect to Eve, before following your advice? :-)

Edited by: Freya B on 08/01/2008 08:01:51 I have read in previous posts that it might be worth contacting Watchdog, OFCOM etc. But has anyone advised the magazines that care about technology, and influence computer users, of this ongoing problem?
I'm thinking of the reporters at the Register: http://www.theregister.co.uk/odds/about/contact/
...along with other sites like Anandtech, www.mmorpg.com, and I presume there are more. (I'm not an avid gamer apart from this, so I don't read other games sites, but there must be many.)
But surely this would be a way to get through to Tiscali, if it starting becoming an actual PR problem for them? So far I don't think they care at all.

Think main reason is in Tiscalis T and C's. You agree to let them do this.
That's the really annoying part for me. I'm with Pipex. I changed from their 2MB business deal to the 8MB consumer deal, and at no time did they ever suggest (a) the two networks were owned by anyone other than Pipex, and (b) that they would totally nerf what they could previously see I had been using every evening for the last 2 years! I'm completely and ongoingly(?) livid.

No need to miss a skill change - HTTP Tunnel set up according to this link can burrow me into Eve every time. It's pitifully slow, you can't fly safely, but at least you can get in to change skills.

Edited by: Freya B on 13/01/2008 22:34:07 It appears that they're also blocking the paid, legal, subscription Napster service.
I've used it every day on my 2MB line with no problems for years, until a couple of weeks ago. Now, the "upgraded" 8MB line can't connect me in the evenings.
HOW HOW HOW can this be legal? They are selling internet access which DOES NOT ACCESS THE INTERNET!

I called Pipex today, after having had no reply to the traceroute screenshots that their support staff asked for last Monday. So that's a week in which I haven't heard from them despite reminders.
They won't issue a MAC code unless "the technical support department deems that they can't solve the problem".
But tech support has no phone number, and they will not state how long it takes before they deem something unsolvable. It could be a week, it could be a year...
I'm being completely screwed.

Pipex here. I was "upgraded" from the 2MB business link to a 8MB consumer a few weeks ago, i.e. Tiscali.
Since then Eve and Napster won't connect between 4pm and 11pm or so.

I'm with Pipex.
I have been entirely unsuccessful at getting a callback, email back, or anything since 9th January when I first complained. I called again this morning, and they gave some rubbish about not being able to find my email support PSN reference number, or even my email address have ever sent anything there.
It is allegedly impossible to phone the support staff who would receive the emails. All they suggest is writing a snail mail letter to a UK office:
Customer Relations Pipex Internet Ltd Pipex House 4 Falcon Gate Shire Park Welwyn Garden City Hertfordshire AL7 1TW
I can see the b******s on Google Earth, I just can't contact them. Anyone fancy a day out with pitchforks?

Shame.
I notice that www.pipexsucks.com and www.tiscalisucks.com have both been registered by themselves.

I've had a thought.
If I ask BT to install a whole new phone line, I could get a new ISP and then cancel the old phone line, thus sending Pipex into the f****** void as they deserve?
Any idea if that is practical, or would I still be liable to pay Pipex the remainder of the contract, even if the phone line it's attached to doesn't exist any more?

Actually, I'm with you there. I don't understand why they're happy to lose players through this.
I did say that I'd probably have to suspend my subscription, and it was "OK, sorry. It's down to your ISP".
If I ran a shop, and the road leading to that shop was permanently closed, I'd be making more of a fuss about it.

GRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've been emailing Pipex for the last 16 days about this with loads of references, ideas, data. Today I get the generic reply:
"It is more than likely that your online game is being traffic managed. Games and downloads that use high bandwidth are manages to ensure all users on our network get a fair amount of bandwidth. More details on this issue can be found on our website or clicking on the following link - http://www.pipex.co.uk/legal/aup.php
Please feel free to contact us for further assistance"
That's it???

Originally by: Snaith Yep thats right , we established this ages ago, and Tiscali admitted too.
Originally by: Ofca It's just sad case of accidental L7 filtering - eve's communication protocol just matched a known fingerprint somehow and it's treated as filesharing traffic.
OK, what I need now then is something I can quote back to Pipex, please.
I can't get onto the Tiscali forum, and Pipex doesn't have one. Is there any published information (i.e. some quotes from Tiscali or Pipex employees) that I can access? I need to prove to them, out of their own mouths, that it is a fault that they have not fixed.

Thanks - can you be a bit more specific? I'm at work and can't really read through 37 pages of user comments. Is there a statement from Tiscali somewhere within it, where they accept that it's a fault not a policy?

I can log in on the last couple of days for the first time in about a month. I haven't trusted any flying time to it yet though. (Pipex here).
Hopefully it's back for good.
